My First Landscape 2009 Moldawien/Chisenau

In Natura

In Natura

Shades of aged, grainy black-and-white photos, overexposure, and modes of highlighting define my work. Here, I find connections between abstraction and object. However, the outdoor works always come into being directly in front of nature in various sizes, from small to large formats. Color, form, and image content are grasped as one: composition.

I discover singular forms, images, moods, coincidences – often in the form of people and places, arrangements that appear sampled without actually being so. These chance occurrences always bring forth new variations, of which I make visible excerpts on the path towards image formulas that hold meaning for me.

Is it the search for the essential that connects art with beauty?

I capture the excerpts as I find them, without preserving them, and connect them with the empty, freestanding painting surface. In contrast to photography, I use excerpts within the excerpt. This way, I direct the view beyond the subject into the white, frameless surroundings and back.

My compositions, through the forms of the excerpts, expand the image format, absorb it, and modify it. This play with formats and image excerpts allows a focus on the essential.

I want my works to assert themselves (in nature) as visually independent entities like a cell, semi-permeable: partially permeable and self-contained simultaneously.
